Dr. Holzman's clinical interests include general surgery, particularly the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques. He has gained expertise in most areas of the field of Laparoscopic Surgery. He also has extensive experience in the following advanced procedures:

He has further minimally invasive surgical experience with specialists in other fields including Pediatric Surgery, Urologic Surgery, Neurosurgery and Orthopedics. His interests have led him to pursue academic endeavors in clinical outcomes studies including costs and patient satisfaction along with the traditional physiological outcomes. His participation and interest in the field has been recognized by the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons with the Resident Achievement Award in 1994 and by the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons for the Golden Scope Young Researchers Award in 1996.

 

Education:

Dr. Holzman received his M.D. degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1988.

Post-Graduate Training:

Dr. Holzman completed his internship training in general surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 1995. He pursued additional training in minimally invasive surgery during a fellowship at Duke University Medical Center, which he completed in 1996.

Other Responsibilities:

Dr. Holzman is a member of the Cell Transplant Society, the H. William Scott, Jr. Society, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. He is an associate fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Within Vanderbilt University Medical Center he serves on the Graduate Medical Education Committee and the Laparoscopy Subcommittee/Value Analysis Committee.

Publications:

Dr. Holzman has published 31 articles, 8 book chapters, and 5 videos. In addition, he has presented numerous posters at scientific conferences and has been an invited lecturer on the use of laparoscopy for palliation of periampullary malignancies, toupet fundoplication, highly selective vagotomy, and splenectomy.
